Building a Dream Master Suite: Luxury Features for the Ultimate Retreat

Residential Remodeling

Your bedroom is your place to retreat from the world. It's a place where you can relax and enjoy time alone or with your partner. Hopefully, your master suite is a comfortable, enjoyable place to spend time. If it's not, it may be time for a remodel. With features like a spa-like bathroom, a luxury walk-in closet, and smart features that will make your life more convenient, you can turn your bedroom into a dream master suite that you'll never want to leave.

For this project, hire a reputable, skilled Connecticut contractor. Working with the right professional for the job can make your remodeling experience a good one. Hiring the right contractor can also help ensure that the outcome of your remodel is a good one.

Luxury Walk-In Closet

No master suite is complete without a luxury walk-in closet to hold your clothes, shoes, and more. Walk-in closets aren't just luxurious, they're also practical. They store all your things while helping to ensure that your bedroom remains uncluttered and attractive.

Luxury closets hold more than just clothes: they're basically rooms unto themselves, and they're furnished to match. While you're building your walk-in closet, work with your contractor to design a space that has features to make the space comfortable and convenient.

  • Mirrors: Install one or more mirrors on the walls to give you multiple vantage points to see your outfits, makeup, and more.
  • Lighting: Lighting is very important in a closet. It does more than help you find your clothes: it provides flattering light to see yourself with as you change into outfits. Recessed lighting is practical, but you may also choose to install light fixtures that are interesting to look at. Consider a chandelier or pendant lighting that illuminates your space, making it more decorative and functional at the same time.
  • Millwork: Hand-made millwork like built-in cabinetry and shelving completes your walk-in closet, providing an organized space where you can store your clothes. Cabinetry islands, like the kind you might find in a kitchen, are also popular in luxury closets when there is enough room. If this interests you, work with your contractor to find an island that will look good in your closet.
  • Seating area: Give yourself a space to sit while you think about what to wear. Install a seating area for a few comfortable chairs.
  • Vanity: Do you need a space to put on makeup? Install a vanity near a mirror where you can see your face and put on makeup as needed.

Spa-Like Bathroom

Why go to the spa when you can bring the spa to your home? Install a spa-like bathroom to give yourself a place to relax at the end of the day. Work with your contractor to widen the space to make room for a large shower, separate bathtub, and more.

Spacious Walk-In Shower

Spacious walk-in showers are comfortable to use and beautiful to look at. Glass walls give your walk-in shower extra natural light to see when you're using it, while also making your bathroom feel more spacious and open. If you're worried about privacy when using your shower, consider installing frosted or patterned glass instead of standard tempered glass. Some features to consider for your walk-in shower:

  • Multiple shower heads, various locations: Install an overhead shower head and side sprayers.
  • High-end tiles: Give your shower creative flair with high-end tiles to dress up the space.
  • Curbless entry: Curbless entry is great for aging in place, because it makes your shower easier and safer to use.

One-Person Luxury Tub

The old multi-person tubs of a few years ago weren't very practical, but many people still want bathtubs where they can soak in style. A one-person luxury tub with all the bells and whistles is all you need to enjoy a good bath. Some features to consider:

  • Heated: Heated walls keep the water warm without requiring you to refill the tub.
  • Jets: Enjoy a massage with jets of water to relax your muscles.
  • Aromatherapy: Create a spa-like experience with an aromatherapy tub.

Spa Toilet

Even toilets can be items of luxury. Install a toilet with features like heated seats, self-cleaning options, deodorizer, ergonomic design, a motion activated lid, and more.

Replace Windows

The windows in your bathroom affect how the space looks and feels. Replace your bathroom windows with something new to dress up the space. Consider a larger window for more natural light, using frosted glass if privacy is a concern.

Smart Lighting Controls

Make your bedroom the perfect environment all the time. Use smart controls to turn on and off your lights, or raise and lower your blinds. Smart devices give you complete control over the ambiance and environment in your room. Using your smartphone, you can choose to turn on bright lights during the day, and lower lights at bedtime for a relaxing ambiance.

Private Balcony

One more thing to consider: why not install a private balcony off your bedroom? Give yourself a place to sit and relax while drinking your morning coffee or when reading a book before bed. Work with a capable contractor for this kind of improvement.
